A charming new exhibit graces the Miniature Gallery at the Cape Coral Art Center. Titled Girl Talk, it sits just above the free Little Library, featuring seven multicolored figures handcrafted by Carolyn Gora. Each figure, made from lampworked glass and wire, is a "girl" seated on a colorful resin cube, engaged in friendly feminine conversation.
Two glass beads form the stylized shape of a woman, while wire limbs add an interactive element, allowing playful adjustments to their poses. Each figure embodies a distinct character, reflecting different styles, ages, and personalities. I see myself in the girl with brown hair, sitting on a red cube on the far right.
Carolyn Gora, originally from St. Petersburg, is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where she earned both a Bachelor's and a Master's in Art Education. With 30 years of experience as an art instructor, she remains deeply involved in arts organizations in Lee County. Drawn to crafts and working on a small scale, Carolyn initially created jewelry, which she taught for five years at Edison Community College. In the 1990s, she transitioned to fused glass, a then-new medium. Today, she enjoys exploring various materials, including paper, fiber, and watercolors, to create three-dimensional works.
This exhibit captures the playful essence of everyday moments, but will only be on display for a limited time. Carolyn Gora's pieces will be placed into the CCAC gift shop for sale after the exhibit removal.
