July is Parks and Recreation month. During the months of May and June, I had been working constantly to complete a sign to commemorate Parks and Recreation month for the city of Cape Coral, Florida. This is the main reason why my commissions have been closed for so long!

The base of the display is made of two 8ft foam boards. On the back of the board is actually the one that was made for last year's Parks and Recreation month! I was surprised that we were going to recycle the old display, but in the end it worked out just fine. The materials were lightweight and workable, even after the project was completed.

The process was complicated - at the suggestion of a coworker, I traced the map of the city on clear acetate. Then, using an old projector, I outlined the map onto one of the foam boards. Once everything was mapped out, I painted it with acrylic paint. After painting was complete, I made 11 illustrations of various facilities located around Cape Coral. For this I used a pack of markers, most of which are now exhausted and belong in the garbage. The letters were made by kids at Creativity Camp, the CCAC art summer camp.

The theme of the display was "where you belong". The idea is to illustrate the various facilities that Cape Coral offers it's citizens. The display will be up for public viewing at City Hall through the entire month of July. Previously the space was occupied by an art exhibit showcasing the work of watercolor painter Lisa Burke. Her website is here. Once the Parks and Rec display comes down, another art exhibit will be posted.

The installation of the City Hall display coincides with the end of the Enchanted Forests and Poison Apples art exhibit at the Cape Coral Art Center. It was at this exhibition that I entered two pieces of artwork: Roland from a Black and White World, and BabushCat Lantern. BabushCat Lantern, a multimedia piece made using alcohol ink, eggshells, and artwork copied onto transparent film, was sold the night of the gallery reception for $100. Roland from a Black and White World was an ink and color pencil piece featuring two characters from an indie game project I was working on with some close comrades. The characters are Roland and Kiki, the main protagonists of the game. This artwork was not for sale.

I've also removed most of the items from the CCAC gift shop, so those will soon be stocked here on my website. Besides my own crafts, I will be offering art supplies from some of my favorite international art brands. Until then, I am once again opening up commissions on my Ko-fi.
